Why Join the PAS?

Astronomy is fun, but it's a real blast when you do it with other people.

The PAS is a local astronomy club in New Orleans, LA, where you'll find like-minded enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and love of the sky with you, along with their own dark sky observatory. Club meetings offer opportunities to try out new equipment, learn new techniques, and make new friends. Develop your skills and passion for astronomy by joining today.

Country Day School Outreach

Join us in Metairie Park Country Day School's Weinmann Auditorium on February 8, 2017 at 6:00 pm as we learn about new frontiers in astrophysics from Dr. Laura Danly, Curator of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Danly will discuss last year's Nobel-Prize-worthy discovery of gravitational waves, the search for the oldest/earliest galaxy, the launch of the next "Hubble," the James Webb Space Telescope, and the search for extra-solar planets.

I am the current President of the PAS.

On January 28th after more than a few weeks of hard work, members of the PAS gathered at the SPMOS Observing Site for an afternoon and evening of "friendship and astronomy". From what I understand 16 club members made this event and 8 stayed overnight. While cold, the sky was clear and no one seemed to complain. (I was in Dallas for a wedding and a birthday so I regrettably, could not make this event.) This will be repeated next month at SPMOS on February 25th. Hopefully this 2nd program will be as popular if not more popular than the first one.

Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are ‘patches of Godlight’ in the woods of our experience.
